Collada Contest Rules

COLLADA CONTEST OFFICIAL RULES - NO PURCHASE NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN. A PURCHASE OF ANY KIND WILL NOT INCREASE YOUR CHANCES OF WINNING. OPEN TO PERSONS 18 YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER. VOID WHERE PROHIBITED.

How to Enter: Beginning at 9:00 a.m. Pacific Time ("PST") on Friday, April 17 until 12:00 p.m. (midnight) PST on July 31, 2009, you may enter the "Champion the 3D Web Using COLLADA" Contest (the "Contest") by visiting http://www.colladacontest.com ("the website"), completing the entry form in its entirety, and submit the entry in accordance with the on-screen instructions. All entries will contain original content ("Content") made for any 3D web based application that can import models stored in either COLLADA .dae documents or .zae archive formats. The Content will consist of a 3D model, avatar, world or simulation specifically geared toward virtual worlds and deployable in Immersive Education platforms. There are no entry fees. All entries must be received by 12:00 p.m. (midnight) PST on July 31, 2009 to be eligible.

Content requirements: The Content entered into the Contest must be original work and not contain any copyright material. Technology specifications of the Content are as follows:

  • No BSP geometry or BREPs;
  • No procedurals or procedural effect dependencies;
  • Engine baked shadow maps and reflection maps are allowed;

Model and/or Scene Specifications of the Content are as follows:

  • Must be capable of being presented in real-time (for example: via a game engine to a virtual world, or from a 3D application view port to a game engine);
  • Avatars are allowed and encouraged but must not be modeled after commercially copyrighted movie or game characters;
  • Scenes must not be modeled after commercially copyrighted movie or game scenes;
  • Photoshop CS Extended adjustments are allowed;

Eligibility: This contest is open to people 18 years of age, or have obtained the age of legal majority in their state of residence (whichever is greater). Employees, officers, directors, and agents of the Sponsors, the Gold Standard Group, or any parent, subsidiary, or affiliate company thereof, as well as or of their households, whether or not related or immediate families (spouses, parents, siblings, children and each of their respective spouses, regardless of where they reside) of the Contest Entities are not eligible to enter this contest. If a team makes one entry, the person who's name appears on the entry form will be the designated contact for that team. All communications from Sponsor will be addressed to the designated contact, and should the entry win any prize, the prize will be awarded to the designated contact only. IT IS UP TO THE TEAMS TO DETERMINE HOW A PRIZE WILL BE SPLIT; SPONSOR WILL MAKE NO EFFORT TO AWARD ANY PRIZE TO ANYONE OTHER THAN THE DESIGNATED CONTACT PERSON.

Limitations of Liability: Khronos Group Inc., Grid Institute and Electric Rain, Inc ("Sponsors"), their respective affiliates, subsidiaries, parent corporations, advertising and promotion agencies, and their respective officers, directors, shareholders, employees and agents, and any and all Internet servers and access provider(s) (collectively with Sponsors, "Contest Entities"), are not responsible for: any incorrect or inaccurate entry information; human error; technical malfunctions; failures, omission, interruption, deletion, or defect of any telephone network, computer online systems, computer equipment, server providers, or software, including any injury or damage to participant's or any other person's computer relating to or resulting from participation in this Contest; inability to access http://www.colladacontest.com; theft, tampering, destruction, or unauthorized access to, or alteration of entries; transactions that are processed late or incorrectly or are incomplete or lost due to computer or electronic malfunction or traffic congestion on the Internet or at any web site; printing or human or other errors; and any entries which are late, lost, incomplete, misdirected, or any combination thereof. Online submission is not considered proof of delivery or receipt. By entering, all participants and/or entrants agree to release, discharge, indemnify and hold harmless the Contest Entities and their respective parent companies, subsidiaries, their respective representatives and agents, advertising and promotion agencies, contest partners and prize suppliers, and all of their respective affiliated companies, employees, officers, directors and shareholders, from and against all claims and damages or liability arising in connection with each entrant's participation and/or entry in the Contest and/or their receipt or use of any prize awarded in this Contest or due to any injuries, damages or losses to any person (including death) or property of any kind resulting in whole or in part, directly or indirectly, from acceptance, possession, misuse or use of any prize or participation in any contest-related activity or participation in this Contest. Any and all warranties and guarantees are subject to the respective manufacturer's terms.

How Winners will be Determined: The potential prize winners Content will be reviewed and tested by a panel of industry and educator judges. Entries will be judged based on esthetic quality (35%), artistry (35%), and technical merit, including import/export viability of related COLLADA data file, as well as overall fit with currently available virtual world platforms, relative to other submissions (30%). The potential prize winners will be announced at SIGGRAPH 2009 in New Orleans, or contacted by mail or phone on or about August 28, 2009. Winners need not be present at SIGGRAPH 2009 to win. Sponsors decisions with respect to the prize winners and other matters pertaining to the Contest shall be final and binding. The prize winners will be required to sign an affidavit of eligibility and release of liability and publicity (where permitted), and return same, properly executed, within ten (10) days of date of issuance of prize notification. If the Sponsors are unable to contact any potential prize winner within thirty (30) days from date of first notification attempt, or if the potential prize winner (i) fails to complete and return all requested forms by the specified date, (ii) is found to be ineligible, or (iii) fails to comply with the Official Rules, his/her prize will be forfeited and, at Sponsors discretion, an alternate winner may be selected.

By entering into the Contest, all entrants consent to the use of their name, photograph, likeness, biography, voice and/or video for advertising and promotional purposes, including online announcements, worldwide and without limitation and without additional compensation, notification or permission, except where prohibited by law.

Conditions of Entry: This Contest is governed by U.S. law and is subject to all federal, state and local laws and regulations. Void where prohibited. Entry materials that have been tampered with or altered are void. If, in the Sponsor's opinion, there is any suspected or actual evidence of electronic or non-electronic tampering with any portion of the Contest, or if computer virus, bugs, unauthorized intervention, fraud, or technical difficulties or failures compromise or corrupt or affect the administration, integrity, security, fairness, or proper conduct of the Contest, the Sponsors reserve the right at their sole discretion to disqualify any individual who tampers with the entry process and void any entries submitted fraudulently, to modify or suspend the Contest, or to terminate the Contest and award prizes based on quality, artistry, and technical merit, as well as overall fit with currently available virtual worlds platforms using all eligible, non-suspect entries received as of the termination date. Should the Contest be terminated prior to the stated expiration date, notice will be posted on colladacontest.com. In the event of a dispute as to the identity of the winner based on an e-mail address, the winning entry will be determined by the authorized account holder of the e-mail address submitted at time of entry and he/she must comply with these Official Rules. "Authorized account holder" is defined as the natural person who is assigned to an e-mail address by an Internet access provider, on-line service provider, or other organization (e.g., business, educational, institution, etc.) that is responsible for assigning e-mail addresses for the domain associated with the submitted e-mail address. CAUTION: ANY ATTEMPT BY AN ENTRANT TO DELIBERATELY DAMAGE THE WEBSITE OR UNDERMINE THE LEGITIMATE OPERATION OF THE CONTEST MAY BE IN VIOLATION OF CRIMINAL AND CIVIL LAWS AND SHOULD SUCH AN ATTEMPT BE MADE, SPONSORS RESERVE THE RIGHT TO SEEK REMEDIES AND DAMAGES (INCLUDING ATTORNEY'S FEES) FROM ANY SUCH ENTRANT TO THE FULLEST EXTENT OF THE LAW, INCLUDING CRIMINAL PROSECUTION.

Prizes:

  • One (1) Grand Prize Winner ("Grand Prize Winner") will receive $5,000, a COLLADA T-Shirt, an invitation to present at a future Immersive Education Initiative in-world (virtual) event and one downloadable copy of Swift 3D v6.
  • One (1) First Prize Winner ("First Prize Winner") will receive $2,000, a COLLADA T-Shirt, a guest appearance at a future Immersive Education Initiative in-world (virtual) event and one downloadable copy of Swift 3D v6.
  • One (1) Second Prize Winner ("Second Prize Winner") will receive $1,000, a COLLADA T-Shirt, a guest appearance at a future Immersive Education Initiative in-world (virtual) event and one downloadable copy of Swift 3D v6.
  • One (1) Runner Up Prize Winner ("Runner Up Prize Winner") will receive $500, a COLLADA T-Shirt and one downloadable copy of Swift 3D v6.

The specifics of all aforementioned elements of the prizes in the Contest shall be solely determined by Sponsors. All costs, taxes, fees, and expenses (including, but not limited to meals, beverages, incidentals, tips, or other personal expenses) associated with acceptance and use of any element of any prize above as being awarded are the sole responsibility of the prize winner.

All federal, state and local taxes on prizes are the prize winner's responsibility. Prize winners will be issued a 1099 tax form for the ARV of the prize. Some restrictions may apply. The prizes cannot be transferred or substituted except at Sponsors sole discretion. Sponsors reserve the right to substitute the prize, or portions thereof, with a prize of equal or greater value. All prizes will be awarded.

Winner's List: Beginning on or about October 15, 2009, you may obtain the name of the prize winners by going to http://www.colladacontest.com. Results will be removed from http://www.colladacontest.com on or about January 31, 2010.
